A great article from Tennis Canada website: 6 reasons why tennis is a great choice for your child
1. No Contact
Collision and contact sports over the years have started to gain attention for the lifelong injuries they can cause. While tennis doesn’t come without its fair share of accidents — if you’ve played long enough you’ve been hit with a tennis ball more than once — racquet sports have definitely become a favourable option for parents looking for a safe and healthy exercise for their child.
2. Expert Supervision
Again, safety first! With coaches on-hand during lessons to teach beginners proper technique and form, there is inherently less chance of acquiring any injuries. While shoelace trips and strains may occur, their likeliness is minimized with practice and patience.
3. Physical Development
A great way to tire your little one out, the game of tennis includes a lot of running around, quick movements, and the use of the entire body. As a result, the development of muscular body strength is inevitable. Couple this with the strengthening of the cardiovascular system — with tennis you’re looking at nothing but healthy aces.
4. Mental Development
According to scientists from the University of Illinois, because tennis requires alertness and tactical thinking, it could possibly create “new connections between nerves in the brain, thus promoting a lifetime of continuing development of the brain.” It also an effective sport to master fine motor-skills and hand-to-eye coordination.
5. Immunity Booster
By improving physical strength, flexibility, balance, and fine motor-skills, tennis will lend to helping your child master other activities off the court. One better, by staying fit and healthy, your child will also have a stronger immune system to help combat passed school yard germs and flu season.
6. It’s social and fun!
We could go on and on about the health and safety benefits of playing tennis, but above all else, we truly believe that when it comes to any sport it should start with f. A strong rooted history in good sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie among players, tennis has forever been a social sport that leads to enjoyment.
If you were considering one of our kids tennis programs but could not afford it you might be eligible for assistance from athletics4kids program.

We are creating a high-performance kids competitive tennis program. The kids will be able to play competitively and participate in the tournaments in BC after about a year in the program.
This group would require a substantial commitment of at least 3 hours a week (12 hours/month). Ideally, the group lessons need to be accompanied with one-on-one private lessons with the coach as well as tennis fitness sessions.
The approximate cost per month is $255/ month (assuming 12 hours/month). If you decide to take additional private lessons for these kids they will be discounted at $55.7/hr. The cost of the fitness sessions is being established and will depend on the number of participants.
Please contact us if you are interested. We would be happy to create two groups – one for 6-8 years old and one for 9-10. The maximum number of players in a group is set 8 but they will be taking all two courts to ensure fast progress.
We will be doing two spring break mini-camps this year.
The camps run 9am-12pm (three hours a day) for three days, Tuesday to Thursday. Please bring along some snack and a water bottle!
The first camp runs Mar 20 to Mar 23 and targeted for 6-9 years old kids who have just started or want to start playing tennis.
The second camp runs Mar 27 to Mar 29 and targeted for 10-13 years old kids who have just started or want to start playing tennis.
Each of the camps is $159.
Coach Albert is preparing his best drills for these events and this time he will have a helper – Sonia S. who plays competitive tennis at the provincial level.

Powell River Tennis Centre has joined Global Tennis Network to provide competitive tennis play opportunities. That system is a “social” network which allows us to manage a number of ladders and provide a convenient mechanism to challenge opponents, track the results and maintain the rankings.
So it all starts with an invitation similar to this one below which invites you to join the Powell River Tennis Centre network:
Please click on “Join Now” button to join our ladder system. If for some reason it is not displayed properly please click on the link below:
This link takes you to the registration page. This system is separate from our Centre’s booking system and requires a separate account.
Please fill in the information in the form, make sure that the checkbox next to “Powell River Tennis Centre” is checked, and click Register:
Once registration is submitted we check check and approve each join request manually to keep the trolls out.
Once that part is done you should get a confirmation email and you can now login to your account.
This is how your account page looks like when you login for the first time. You have not yet joined any ladders yet but you see the ladders available on the right side.
Once you click on one of the ladder links it will show the current ladder members, some ladder details and a “Join Now” button at the bottom:
Once you click “Join Now” the system will ask you to update your home court (and it shows all courts within 25 miles, including the Vancouver Island ones)
When you have been added to the ladder, you can also fill in the Availability information to simplify match arrangements.
And once that done, you can challenge your opponents and start playing matches and moving up (and sometimes down) the ladder. Click the “Challenge” button to invite the opponent for a game.
There are no limits on how many matches you play or how many ladders you can play on.
Please contact us if you experience any issues with the system via https://prtennis.ca/contact-us
Please put a “T-shirt” note in the Comment field when you sign-up for the lesson and we will deliver it for your first lesson!
