Tennis can help to increase life expectancy by as much as 9.7 years!

We knew that and we felt that but it is scientifically proven now! Tennis extends your LIFE by almost 10 years! And we are quite positive that these will be 10 years of active and happy life!

“Various sports are associated with markedly different improvements in life expectancy. Because this is an observational study, it remains uncertain whether this relationship is causal. Interestingly, the leisure-time sports that inherently involve more social interaction were associated with the best longevity—a finding that warrants further investigation.

Multivariable-adjusted life expectancy gains compared with the sedentary group for different sports were as follows: tennis, 9.7 years; badminton, 6.2 years; soccer, 4.7 years; cycling, 3.7 years; swimming, 3.4 years; jogging, 3.2 years; calisthenics, 3.1 years; and health club activities, 1.5 years.”

People of Powell River have a unique opportunity to play all year around and yes, the registration is open for the next term of Learn to Play groups! More details and how to sign up is here: https://prtennis.ca/programs

Family Tennis – Now in Powell River!

This term we are introducing a “Family Tennis” series here in Powell River Tennis Centre. Starting this week, two programs are available:

“Family Hour” – Mom, Dad, and the kids spend an hour together learning the basics of Tennis! This is a coached program run by coach Gary Winter and priced at $57.77 for a one-hour session (taxes included)

“Easy Doubles” – Two teams of two (couples or just friends 🙂 share a court with coach Gary Winter. Gary reviews the basics of the game to help you start playing as soon as possible, introducing technical aspects as necessary! The price is $30 per couple for one-hour session (taxes included as well). The focus is on playing and enjoying the game.

We are flexible with the time and we can accommodate morning, afternoon and evening sessions. Please contact us (text/call at 604-223-8704, send a note from our web page https://prtennis.ca/contact-us or email us at info@prtennis.ca), and suggest a time that fits into your schedule. Every program can be setup as a weekly program for the duration of the term (from now until Christmas) or as a one-time event.

One of the best things about tennis is that it can be enjoyed by anyone and almost anytime and right here indoors in Powell River! This makes it the perfect sport to play with family and friends.

It is a great bonding opportunity and a great way to promote a positive relationship with health, fitness, and fun. Tennis doesn’t have to be played competitively or too seriously. Rather, it is a sport that can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace.

If you introduce your kids to tennis from an early age, they can to develop a love for the sport and a desire to continue to play at higher levels. No matter what level you and your family are playing at, tennis is all about staying fit and having fun.

You will need to have comfortable clothing, shoes with non-marking soles and a water bottle. You can bring your own racquet or use our loaners and we provide the balls.
